Reka has unveiled Rho-1, a 19-billion-parameter "omni-reasoning" model that the company says can also act as a real-time, steerable world model. In its announcement, Reka shows game worlds in styles from photoreal open worlds to voxel and low-poly.
Reka says Rho-1 was trained from scratch and can understand and generate text, images and video, reason over them and take actions, all within one neural network.
Rather than a central model handing work to separate specialists for each type of media, Rho-1 treats text, vision and robot actions as tokens in a single context window. Reka argues this "collapses the stack" and removes the delays each handoff adds.
For game developers, the relevant part is the world-model mode. Reka says that when Rho-1 is steered with real-time controls, the result is "a persistent, interactive simulation". It describes changing physics or weather mid-stream and inspecting object state without restarting.
According to the company, the base model generates video at 0.79x real time (median), with a watchable stream starting in about 6 seconds. Its showcase reel of 60 clips across 10 domains, all from one checkpoint, includes the game-world examples.
Reka is open about the limits. It notes that longer rollouts "degrade structurally before they degrade visually": a 30-second stream can keep photorealistic texture while drifting into a room layout that no longer makes sense.
For anything resembling playable game logic, that consistency problem is the central challenge.
Why it matters: world models that can be steered live are an emerging alternative to building game scenes by hand, especially for prototyping, previs and generative experiences. A single model that can both reason about a scene and render it is a notable design direction.
Caveat: everything above comes from Reka's own announcement and curated demos, not independent evaluation. AIGamer hasn't tested the model.
Rho-1 is a research preview. Until Reka offers a public API or open weights, developers can't test these claims themselves.
