Almost half of the games released on Steam in October 2026 carried an AI-generated content disclosure, according to an analysis Reddit user u/ploz shared on r/Steam, using Steam data as of November 1. Dexerto reported the count on November 2, and Destructoid followed later that day.
u/ploz counted 63,596 games released since Valve introduced its AI disclosure in January 2024, using Steam's public data. The disclosing share rose from 1.7% in January 2024 to 13.2% across 2024, 24% in 2025 and 40.1% in 2026 through October. October 2026 hit 49.9%, against 26.4% a year earlier. Each game is counted in its release month, even when the disclosure was added later.
The disclosures cluster in small releases. In 2026, 47% of games with fewer than 10 reviews disclosed AI, compared with 14% of games with 1,000 or more, Destructoid and Dexerto reported. Developers with 10 or more releases this year disclosed on 68% of them, against 37% for developers with a single release.
Art is the most common use, named by 63% of disclosing games, followed by text and translation (30%), store page and marketing material (26%), music (21%), code (16%) and voices (7%). Only 3% said AI generates content live while the game is running, according to Dexerto.
Why it matters: for developers using AI, a disclosure is now close to the norm on a new Steam release rather than a mark that sets a game apart. The gap between tiny and well-reviewed games also suggests disclosed AI use is concentrated in high-volume, low-visibility releases, which is where players' worries about low-effort games are aimed. It adds a store-wide, multi-year view to our earlier story, "1 in 3 Steam Next Fest demos disclose AI as players request filters."
Caveat: this is one person's count, not Valve data, and AIGamer has not rerun it or been able to open the Reddit post itself; the figures here are from u/ploz's chart and the Dexerto and Destructoid reports. Disclosures are self-reported, so undeclared AI use is missing. Valve also narrowed the rule in January 2026 to AI content players see or hear, Dexerto noted, so the series spans a change in what developers must declare.
If u/ploz repeats the count for November 2026, it will show whether the share has passed 50%.
