Player2, made by Elefant AI, is a platform that gives games and mods free access to AI models for NPCs. Its FAQ describes three ways to create: AI stories in a no-code web editor, AI games through engine integrations for Godot and Unity (a Defold integration is also listed), and AI mods built on its local or web APIs. Its site lists mods for Minecraft, RimWorld, Mount & Blade II and Kenshi.
The model works differently from paid NPC services. Players install the Player2 app and keep it open; your game talks to the app's API on the player's machine, and Player2 covers the model costs. The FAQ says it handles text-to-speech and speech recognition too, and that the free tier includes the gpt-oss-120b model plus a daily recharge of credits for premium models. Developers can browse live API docs at localhost:4315 once the app is running.
The Godot plugin, announced on June 20, 2025, adds a Player2AINPC node that handles the event queue, long-term memory and function calls; its Godot Asset Library entry lists it under GPLv3. The Unity SDK is MIT-licensed on GitHub, and Defold's asset portal has an official Player2 plugin. Player2 also says it shares revenue with creators and has more than 70,000 monthly active players; both are its own claims.
The trade-off is the install: every player needs the Player2 app. AIGamer hasn't tested it; see our AI NPCs guide.
