Convai is a hosted platform for conversational AI characters used in games, XR, training simulations and on the web. In its Playground you define a character's description, personality, voice and language, then add a Knowledge Bank (retrieval from your files), guardrails, long-term memory, narrative design (goal-based conversation flows) and actions the character can trigger in your scene, according to Convai's documentation. Characters can also connect to MCP servers.

To use a character in a game, you install Convai's Unity SDK or Unreal Engine plugin and connect with an API key. The Unity docs list voice conversation, lip sync, actions, emotion, memory and vision across Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Meta Quest and WebGL, with some gaps on WebGL. The Unreal plugin is Blueprint-first and targets Win64 and Android builds. Convai also offers no-code browser tools (Avatar Studio and Convai Sim) and web plugins.

As of October 2026, Convai's pricing page lists a free plan with 100 interactions a month, Indie Dev at $29 a month ($22 billed yearly) with 3,000, and Professional at $99 ($69 yearly) with 10,000, up to Business and custom Enterprise plans. Each tier also caps interactions with flagship LLMs and the number of monthly active end users, from 1 on the free plan to 75 on Indie Dev. Because it's a cloud service, cost grows with how many players talk and how much. AIGamer hasn't tested Convai; see our AI NPCs guide.
