Unreal Engine
Epic offers two kinds of AI help in Unreal Engine. Unreal Engine 5.7, released November 12, 2025, added an in-editor AI Assistant that answers questions and writes C++. Unreal Engine 5.8, released June 17, 2026, added an experimental MCP plugin; Epic's release notes say it lets outside AI agents plug into the editor, learn about the engine and open project, and help create assets and systems. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is, per its project site, an open-source standard for linking AI apps to other software.
Epic's Unreal MCP documentation says the server runs inside the editor at 127.0.0.1:8000/mcp by default, and a console command writes the setup file for Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini or Codex. It also warns that the server has no authentication and isn't safe to expose beyond your own machine (how to set it up). Epic also publishes an MIT-licensed Unreal Engine Skills plugin for Claude Code on GitHub (skill packs explained).
Paid plugins build on this: BlueprintsLab's press release for Ultimate Engine CoPilot V2 claims 1,655 tools for Unreal 5.7 and 5.8, with plans from $25 a month (our story).
Epic's AI MegaJam, November 12 to 15, allows teams of up to five people plus unlimited agents, and its announcement points entrants to MCP setup guides; PC Gamer reported that Epic dropped an early rule requiring AI (our story).
What to watch: Engadget reported that Epic wants MCP built into Unreal Engine 6, which it aims to release in early access in late 2027.
