Unity's AI tools are a set of AI features for the Unity Editor. Unity is retiring the "Unity AI" brand name, according to its AI tools page. They need Unity 6.0 or later and are in beta. They first shipped, as the Unity AI beta, in Unity 6.2 in August 2025.
The in-editor assistant is a chat panel with Ask, Plan and Agent modes. In a May 5, 2026 blog post, Unity said Agent mode can write C# scripts, change scene components, create prefabs and check the results. Generators make images, textures, 3D models, sound, music, animation and skyboxes. Both spend Unity Credits: Unity's docs estimate 4 to more than 1,500 credits per assistant message and 8 to 13 for a 3D model. An AI gateway runs a third-party agent you already pay for inside the Editor, without credits.
For outside agents, Unity's official plugin adds Unity skills to Claude Code, Codex and, since October 1, 2026, Grok Build; the Claude Code version installed 29 skills at its September 9 launch. Unity's MCP server (MCP lets AI agents call an app's tools) now runs through the experimental Unity CLI: unity mcp configure connects clients such as Claude, Cursor, VS Code or Windsurf. Unity has deprecated the older MCP server inside the assistant package.
As of October 2026, Pro, Enterprise and Industry include the assistant; Personal users pay $10 a month after a 14-day trial. The plugin, CLI and MCP server are free. AIGamer hasn't tested these tools.

Limitation: Assistant credits don't roll over and AI features pause at zero; Unity says credit rates can change without notice, and the tools are still in beta.
FAQ
Is there an official Unity MCP server?
Yes. Unity's docs say the MCP mode of the free Unity CLI ('unity mcp') replaces the deprecated server in the assistant package. It works with clients such as Claude, Cursor, VS Code and Windsurf, and Unity says it needs no Unity Credits.
Is Unity AI free?
Partly. The official plugin, CLI and MCP server are free. The in-editor assistant is included in Pro and Enterprise; Personal users get a 14-day trial, then pay $10 a month (October 2026).
Can I use Claude Code with Unity?
Yes. Unity's official plugin for Claude Code, Codex and Grok Build adds Unity skills to the agent, and it requires Unity 6.0 or later.
Is Unity AI the same as Unity Muse?
No. Unity says Muse was a separate, deprecated product with Unity's own models, while the current AI tools use third-party models.
