AI Game Developer is a set of open-source engine plugins by Ivan Murzak that let an outside AI agent work inside a game editor. It began in April 2025 as Unity-MCP, still the most developed part, and gained Godot and Unreal Engine versions in June 2026; the Unreal plugin is labeled beta in its README.
Each plugin runs an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, so agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini or Codex can call its tools. It can also write agent skill files based on your Unity version and the packages in your project. According to the Unity-MCP README, there are more than 70 built-in tools for assets, prefabs, scenes, components, C# scripts, screenshots, logs and tests, with add-ons for systems such as Cinemachine, ProBuilder, Terrain and Timeline. Developers can expose their own C# methods as tools with an attribute, and the plugin can also run inside a built game, for example to let a language model control an NPC.
Setup uses a Unity package or the unity-mcp-cli command-line tool. The plugins are Apache-2.0 licensed, and ai-game.dev says local use is free and needs no account. Paid plans from $25 a month add hosted models plus image and 3D generation. The site also offers a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux that installs the plugins for you.
It is a separate project from Coplay's similarly named Unity MCP. AIGamer has not tested it.

FAQ
Is AI Game Developer free?
The engine plugins are open source under Apache-2.0, and ai-game.dev says local use with your own AI agent is free with no account. Paid plans (Indie $25/month, Studio $99/month, Studio Max $199/month as of November 2026) add hosted AI and asset generation.
Which AI agents work with Unity-MCP?
The README names Claude Code (its recommendation), Claude Desktop, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Antigravity and Windsurf, and its CLI also sets up Codex, Gemini, Cline, Kilo Code, Rider and others. The agent must support skills or dynamic MCP tool updates.
Does it work with Unreal Engine and Godot?
Yes. Godot-MCP and Unreal-MCP are counterparts of the Unity plugin, also Apache-2.0 on GitHub. They are newer and have fewer tools, and Unreal-MCP is marked beta.
Is this the same as Coplay's Unity MCP?
No. They are separate projects with similar names. This one is maintained by Ivan Murzak at github.com/IvanMurzak/Unity-MCP and sold as AI Game Developer at ai-game.dev.
